Minor discrepancy
[edit]At university he may have changed subject or done a joint honours degree, as this page from his alma mater says he read classics. Could easily be a mistake, of course. Blythwood (talk) 14:17, 10 July 2016 (UTC)
- Also: I am 99% sure that the Philip John May in the Companies House listing is not the same one as the Philip May moving into number 10. That Philip May is frequently referred to as the Chief Executive of the chemicals company U-POL (here also and this Linkedin page suggests a separate person. Blythwood (talk) 04:15, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
Details
[edit]His middle name (John) and year of birth (1957) can be confirmed from official published records, which also show that his mother's maiden name was Miller - should this be of any interest in the future. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:42, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
Age
[edit]“Mrs May, who rarely opens up about her private life, spoke about the "huge support" she received from Philip, who at 57 is two years younger than her, during this period in her life on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.”, according to BBC News, “Profile: Theresa May's husband Philip”, 13 July 2016.
Our article says that he was born in 1957 and that his age as 58–59. There is a mistake anywhere, maybe on BBC News, maybe on Wikipedia... Hégésippe | ±Θ± 18:57, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- The birth year/full name needs an independent source to ensure that we are not conflating him with someone else with the same name. Removed in the meantime. January (talk) 19:15, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
Office
[edit]The "spouse of the Prime Minister" is not an "office". So why do we use {{Infobox officeholder}}? Ghmyrtle (talk) 11:01, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- I would imagine it's suitable because this post is akin to an office, meaning the infobox generated by that template is basically the right information that would be shown, and is of interest to readers. The template may be called that behind the scenes, but it doesn't actually display anything suggesting that this is an office when rendered for the reader. — Amakuru (talk) 15:11, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
agree - spouse of a leader is not an office — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.91.232.210 (talk) 23:34, 31 January 2018 (UTC) if he "assumed office" he would be sworn in...he was not sworn in — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.91.232.210 (talk) 23:38, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
Not notable?
[edit]I think he is notable by Wikipedia standards but by some people's interpretation, they might want his article deleted or redirected to something else. Camfartox (talk) 19:52, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Can someone restore my edits please, that were made in good faith to improve the article? Thanks. 78.16.237.4 (talk) 20:12, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 20:39, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- The changes I would like restored are in the diff I linked to. 78.16.237.4 (talk) 20:44, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- Not done for now: The File:Riyen Karia with Philip May.jpg image has been deleted which is likely the reason for the revert. Can you link the correct image? — IVORK Discuss 21:28, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- @IVORK: No, that's fine. Can you restore the other edits I made, excluding the deleted image? 78.17.145.72 (talk) 21:39, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- I'll defer to Chrissymad who actually made the revert. — IVORK Discuss 21:41, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- @IVORK: Their edit summary for the revert reads "BE", i.e. block evasion, which I categorically denied at User talk:NeilN#My IP edits. 78.17.145.72 (talk) 13:47, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

- Done Chrissymad has been active since being tagged, so I'll assume they wasn't going to provide input and I'm fine to undo their revert. Cheers — IVORK Discuss 21:29, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- IVORK I didn't see your ping and I still stand by my previous revert as this is obvious block evasion. Pinging @NeilN:. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 21:58, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Chrissymad: See User_talk:NeilN#My_IP_edits --NeilN talk to me 22:00, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- Based on that, I'll agree the IP may not be block evading but the Karia picture needs to be removed as that was part of the accounts block evading. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 22:10, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Suggestion of new photo
[edit]Relatively new contributor here. Can I suggest that someone with more experience changes the lead image of Philip May on this article (Wikimedia Commons link here) and at Spouse of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, as it appears to have been distorted out of proportion, and so doesn't adequately depict the subject? Surely there must be a better photo out there? MannersMakythMan (talk) 15:40, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
Infobox spouse
[edit]So "Carrie Symonds (not married)" has taken over the role of Spouse of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom? According to that article it's still "Marina Wheeler (separated)." I would suggest that, legally speaking, that will remain the case until the divorce is finalised. Any thoughts? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:18, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
- I think this needs a proper discussion as otherwise it becomes subject to original research. I'm not sure how separated the Graftons were when he became PM, but here we have two different candidates. (Both Spouse of the Prime Minister of Australia and Spouse of the Prime Minister of New Zealand include partners.) Timrollpickering (Talk) 08:57, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- What these Liberal Colonials get up to, in their own distant realms, is entirely their business. We'll have no contamination here, thank you! But yes, there seems to be a certain Antipodean connection: [1]. I bet Marina could get red wine stains out of that sofa. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:40, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

Date of birth
[edit]FreeBMD shows that the only May birth in Norwich in 1957 was this one, Philip J., mother's name Miller, for "Norwich outer" district, registered Dec quarter. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:31, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
